Story
Hey! I'm writing a story based off of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It's set in the present and I changed the names. I'll post it so you can read it. Enjoy!
The Legend of North Tarrytown High
A young boy, about seventeen years of age, stood in front of a rectangular brick building. Thoughts were racing through his head. He observed the antics of the building’s inhabitants. Some strolled through the doors casually, others shyly. One couple, a cheerleader and a jock, made as big a scene as he had ever seen. All he could do is stand there and yearn for recognition like that. He wasn’t considered the most well liked person among his past schools, but he still had hope.
“What a strange, strange world. I’m never going to fit in here. And what’s worse is I’m starting in the middle of the school year! I have to find a way be popular, even if it means giving up my year and a half analysis of Cotton Mather’s History of New England Witchcraft. Oh! My stomach churns at the thought of it! But I have to do it! I must! For one day I, Rupert Thaddeus Crane, will become the most popular kid at North Tarrytown High!”
The first period bell chirped loudly as senior Catherine Tassel and her wannabes sauntered down the hall. Catherine had been the head cheerleader since ninth grade and was considered the most popular girl in school.
“Hi Catherine!” shouted an eager freshmen boy.
“Hey what’s up!” a skater boy said as she walked by. Suddenly a tall, gangly boy with out of date clothes and 70’s glasses abruptly approached her.
“Excuse me, Miss, I couldn’t help but notice that everyone seems to be naturally attracted to you. May I ask you a few informative questions on how you attained such lofty status?”
“Not acting like that,” a handsome brawny senior said in a sarcastic tone, “is one way to start.”
“Oh Holden stop,” Catherine said. “He only means to ask me something.”
“Well, Holden doesn’t like people getting in his way and this pipsqueak is standing right in front of me” As he replied two other boys, Peter and Ralph, came running up. Both stood on either side Holden.
Clearing his throat Ralph said, “Please stand aside as Holden Brunt walks by. Oh and souvenir photographs are $3.50.”
Holden cuffed Ralph on the back of the neck as he muttered, “Idiot.”
As all of this was happening, Rupert was becoming more and more fearful of the world he was trying to enter. He was shocked and stunned that being cool was so much responsibility. You had to form a posse, get their undivided attention, and manage a small keepsake business. He was snapped out his thoughts when one of the girls following Catherine said,
“Uh unless you want to get written up by the hall monitor, we should all get to class.”
“True Leighna,” Catherine said walking slowly away, “I suppose we should. Bye Holden. Call me!”
“Ah I have her eating out of the palm of my hand!” Holden proudly announced, “Actually I have the entire school!”
“Wow Holden, where’d you get that much food?” Ralph said. Holden only replied to him with a cuff on the back of his head, muttering “Idiot.”
As Rupert sat in World Civics class later that day, he devised a plan on how to become cool. All I have to do is develop a posse! Just like Holden has. He examined the room for worthy prospects.
After class, he explained to all his possible participants what he desired to have a posse for and why it could benefit them. After receiving blank stares and the occasional laugh, he left in dwindling spirits.
Walking with his head down, he plowed right into one of Catherine’s clique members named Alexandria.
“Oh sorry!” He exclaimed picking up his books.
“That’s okay. Hey weren’t you that guy who tried to Catherine?” She replied.
“Uh yeah.” Rupert said blushingly.
“Well I’m glad Holden let you off easy,” Ally said with a reluctant smile.
“What do you mean?” He asked.
“Holden, though charming with rugged good looks, has a reputation of being slightly overprotective of Catherine,” she replied, “as in, any guy talks to her and they’re going down!”
Puzzled, Rupert asked, “Going down where?”
Ally shook her head then asked, “So did recently move here?”
Rupert perked up a little and pushing up his glasses replied, “Oh yes. My father’s job transferred him from Montana to New York City and my mother thought Tarrytown was quite lovely.”
“Oh nice,” Ally replied as her friend Molly walked up, “Oh, Molly, let me introduce you to…”
“Rupert Crane my dear,” he said while bowing slightly. Molly only giggled. “Well ladies, I must be off. Advanced Math calls.”
Once he was out of earshot, Molly turned to Ally and excitedly said, “Wow! Did you see that! He’s kinda cute!”
Ally gave her a confused glance, “Are you feeling okay?” Just then their two other friends, Ann Marie and Leighna, walked up. Ally explained what happened and what was said.
Leighna replied, “No offense but he kinda looks odd. Like a scarecrow.” Ann Marie agreed. The subject would have continued but they got a text from Catherine saying she wanted to talk to them right away and off they were.

Great story! When do you think you'll finish it??
